IMPORTANT CHANGES IN CPA LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Changes in the Maryland Public Accountancy Act permit individuals licensed as certified public accountants licensed in other states and CPA firms located in other states to provide CPA services in Maryland without having to obtain a license or permit from the Board of Accountancy.

 
BOARD APPROVED INCREASE IN APPLICATION, LICENSE FEES
New fees for applications, licenses and other services was effective September 22, 2008

On September 2, 2008, the Board of Public Accountancy took final action to approve regulations that increase application, license and other service fees for the first time since 1996. Notice of the Board's action was published in the September 12, 2008 Maryland Register and became effective on September 22.

Firms and individuals who perform audit, attest, review, or compilation reports other than compilation reports for internal use only (SSARS 8)

The State Board of Public Accountancy qualifies, licenses and regulates individuals seeking licensure to practice as a certified public accountant and firms that offer public accounting services. The Board regulates the practice of public accountancy under the provisions of Business Occupations and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 2 and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 9, Subtitle 24. The Board investigates complaints against licensees, as well as complaints related to unlicensed practice. The Board may issue a reprimand, suspend or revoke a license as well as assess a civil penalty up to $5,000 for violations of the law and regulations.
